BROOKINGS — Aiden Abraham is a Class B state boys golf champion.

The Hamlin senior started the second day of the Class B boys state golf tournament at the Brookings Country Club six strokes back from the leader, Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson, shooting a 71.

After a 77 in his first 18 holes, Abraham shaved off eight strokes, finished two-over-par for the tournament and claimed his first-ever state golf championship.

“Going into the round, I thought there’s not really a chance of winning it,” Abraham said. “But then I started birdying and I kept getting closer. At the end, I kind of had a feeling that I had the lead, so it was a great feeling.”

Abraham highlighted Day 2 with the best score of the whole tournament with a 69, including five birdies and 11 pars. He parred each of the last three holes to capture the championship.
