EUGENE, OREGON — Rapid City Stevens alum and Oregon Duck Simeon Birnbaum won the men’s 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Birnbaum, a junior, finished the race in 3:36.05 to win the event over Michigan’s Trent McFarland (3:37.18) at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

Birnbaum, who set the NCAA 1500-meter national record earlier this season, also qualified in the 5,000 meters but did not finish the race. There was roughly only an hour and 45-minute break between the two races.
